Chapter 8 and 9

Teachers act as designers everytime they get ready to put together a lesson. When a teacher puts a powerpoint together or an acitivity there is some level of design that takes place.

iStopMotion is a type of software that allows students beginning at the elementary level to create their own animated movies and time-lapsed recordings. This software allows students to work on frame by frame editing.

Digital storytelling is used for students to develop a story on paper, then use a camera to shoot the video, later using the footage to put together the digital project on a certain type of software. I believe this assingment could work in the classroom. The digital storytelling would teach the students good orginizational skills.

The Fathom dynamics statistics allows highschool students to visualize large data sets. The software can help with geographical pattern awareness.

I believe that just watching television cannot teach a person how to do anything. A lot of people learn how to do things by acutally being hands on. Using these different types of softwares is always going to be the better choice so that everyone can experince how to do things on their own.

Voice Threads in the Classroom

I would definetly use voice threads in my classroom. I love the idea of being able to use the voice thread and the different things that you can do and put it to all different subjects. Students will be able to interact in many different ways and be in control on every aspect on the website. The teacher would be able to give assigments to their students.

Voice threads will allow a student to comment five different ways. You are able to comment by telephone, web cam, text, microphone and file upload. Students can draw on the picture as they are commenting. A voice thread allows students to do a live chat session. They are able to meet while not being in the same room. Group projects can be done so much more easier and with less stress.

Voice threads are a wonderful assest to the classroom. Teachers can engage their students for all subjects. The voice threads give students 5 opportunities to comment on the website.

Week 11: Lesson Plan

The three principles that I would select, that I believe is important to education would be multimodial principles, discovery principles and practice principles. Multimodal principles is good to use in the classroom because meaning and knowledge is built up through images, symbols and abstract design. Discovery principles is good to use because it allows the student to experiment and make discoveries. Finally, the practice principle gives students the time to practice the same subject repetitively.

I would use the quiz games for my class the students would only be able to do the quiz. Anything that is involved with technology will allow students to become more active and hands on with the assignment.

Principles are good to use in the classroom, because different people learn differently. A teacher should always be aware of the way their students learn.

Powerpoints

The subject that I will be teaching is science. The writing activites that I will be doing with my class will be when they are working on their science fair projects. I would allow them to be in groups and collaborate online. This will require dedication and extra time out of class in order for this to work effectively.
I will make sure that my powerpoint presentations doesnt become a distraction with unecessary noises and animations . I want my powerpoint  to catch the eye and keep the attention of my audience throughout the presentation.
I love the idea of integrating technology into the classroom. It really does have the potential to make the students have more fun and get more involved in their work instead of getting things out of a textbook. Technology is always more engaging. As a future educator I definetly will be using these techniques to make sure my classroom is a place that is enjoyable for all.

Inspiration Quick Tour and Webspiration

The things that I find interesting about Inspiration is that a student is able to use technology and incorporate that in their everyday lesson plans. I believe that technology is important to use and a fun way to allow students to get involved and interact with other students. I would allow the class to use webspiration when doing a group project. This will allow them to get acquainted with technology while they interact with their classmates.
The best writing activity that a teacher can use with these applications, is a research paper. Using this technology tool, a teacher can set up the classroom to discuss and share ideas with one another on time outside of the class time. A teacher should make it a requirement for the students to log on and give good feedback to their students and peers. When I had to teach a new topic I didn't know the topic better until after I taught it, because I had to do some research on the topic. When the students asked me about the topic I had to be aware of what I was teaching in order to answer the correct answer.
Using these different technologies is a wonderful. I believe that students should have the opportunity to interact with other students on the computer. Inspiration and Webspiration is two different applications that are good to use in the classroom.

Blog Assignment

I believe that blogs are a good way to connect with people especially in this day and age. I think it is also fun and a good experience to create one. Because technology is advancing each day a blog would be perfect for education. It will allow children to think on a different level and communicate with people outside of the classroom. I dont think creating a blog is a waste of time, because it will allow children to apply the modern world to an subject in school. This will prepare students for the working world. I want to teach science, so for one assignment I could use wiki or a blog to have them document their science projects. Once they create this they can have their classmates suggest their ideas in order to better their projects.
